Apple announces the iPad

Yes, the iPad, the name is quite unfortunate in my opinion; it sounds like a mix between a hightech tampon and a boston accent iPod. Rumours of the much anticipated Apple Tablet have been circulating the web since 2006, in fact Apple was toying around with tablet technology more than 20 years ago with the Newton.

By all accounts, the Newton was somewhat of failure and it left a bad taste in Apple’s mouth. Today though, was a monumental occasion for the tech giant, after the massive success of the iPod and iPhone, Apple is hoping to cash in on the new hybrid market, not quite a tablet, not quite a netbook…but is there a market for it? Personally I don’t see myself buying one just yet, sure it looks beautiful and would have several useful applications but it just doesn’t do exactly what I was hoping for.

The base model features 16gb of internal storage a 10″ 1024 x 768 pixel screen, full multi touch display, wifi, bluetooth and built in speakers and microphone (price point is $499, ranging up to $829 for the top end 64gb model with 3G access).
